Institute of Electrical Engineering and Technology Fundamentals is an organisational unit of the Wroclaw University of Technology, one of the largest and most important scientific and educational institutions in Poland.
Together with the Institute of Power Electrical Engineering and the Institute of Electrical Machines and Drives, it forms the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Wroclaw University of Technology. The Department teaches at present about 1300 students and employs 135 lecturers. Among the academic staff, there are 36 full and associate professors, 87 doctors and 12 assistants.
Academic staff of the institute belongs to the leading research teams in Poland in the area of Electrical Engineering and falls into the highest A category awarded by the Ministry of Science.
Main research areas of the Institute of Electrical Engineering and Technology Fundamentals, which form its scientific profile, include:
- mathematical methods in electrical engineering
- dielectric materials engineering
- high-voltage insulation
- cryoelectrotechnics
- impulse electromagnetic stress
Substantial part of the R & D work is executed under contract of the electrotechnical and power industry. Among others, one could name the most interesting:
- development of the new technology of multifilament superconductor cables
- line insulator made of composite material
- development of the new methods of field analysis and generalisation of the boundary conditions in field analysis
- new digital methods of parameter estimation in real-time with use of artificial intelligence
- application of modern digital signal processing methods in electrical engineering
